Alabama Heating and Air Conditioning Contractor License


Work that can be Done Under this License
A Certified HVAC Contractor is authorized to install or service and repair or replace heating and air conditioning systems including natural gas heating and air conditioning appliances. Also includes specifically the servicing, repair, or replacement of those appliances in manufactured housing set up as stationary housing, but excluding the piping to such appliances.



Exam Details
- The fee for the exam is $125 and is paid directly to the board.
- The Alabama HVAC Contractor Exam has 80 questions and a time limit of 4 hours.
- A 66.25% is required to pass.
- Topics on the exam include insulation; hangers and supports; sound, vibration, and seismic control; heating and cooling principles; refrigerants; commercial load calculations; testing, adjusting, and balancing; controls; air conditioning and heat pump systems; furnaces and heaters; chimneys, flues, and vents; combustion air; ducts; ventilation and exhaust; safety; piping; and residential load calculations.
