North Carolina Plumbing License

Requirements to Obtaining your License
- Anyone who engages in or offers to engage in the business of plumbing must be licensed by the State of North Carolina.
- Applicants must submit a completed application to get pre-approval from the State Licensing Board to take the exam.
- You are required to have a total of 4000 hours to sit for any single plumbing examination. 2000 hours may include service or maintenance work but you must have a minimum of 2000 hours hands-on work in installation, layout and design of plumbing systems.

Work that can be Done Under this License
Plumbing is deemed and held to be: the system of pipes, fixtures, apparatus and appurtenances, installed upon the premises, or in a building, to supply water theretoand to convey sewage or other waste therefrom.
The two classifications for a North Carolina plumbing license are Class I and Class II.
- A Class I plumbing license is for commercial, residential, industrial and institutional buildings whereas
- A Class II plumbing license is for single family detached residential dwellings only.
